In this state, the active alkaloids in kratom (Mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine) have been added to the Controlled substance list. However, there is hope that in the future these laws may change. If you are looking to purchase kratom in this state you are out of luck. You will not find it anywhere. If you are caught with kratom you will face criminal charges. 

Classification Of Kratom In Vermont

Vermont placed mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine on the controlled substance list back in 2016. This placed kratom alongside dangerous drugs such as LSD and heroin. However, kratom is an all-natural herb. 

While kratom is not listed on the controlled substance list, the two main alkaloids are. So, this classifies kratom as illegal. This has left many users in Vermont confused. There are petitions in motion to help overturn this law. However, they have not been successful yet.

In 2020, a new bill was presented which aimed to legalize kratom. This bill is currently with the Judiciary Committee. At this point, there has not been any movement on the bill. The issue in Vermont is not kratom but the fact that the industry is not regulated. 

The American Kratom Association is working with state officials to try and lift the kratom ban. They are also hoping they can get this state on board with the Kratom Consumer Protection Act.

No, but it is not just in Vermont. Kratom is not the sort of plant that you are going to find anywhere in the United States. Mitragyna speciosa is native to Southeast Asia and grows in the wild here. It is a fickle plant that requires a tropical climate to thrive. 

Can You Grow Kratom In Vermont?

No, kratom is illegal in this state. So, if you are caught trying to grow kratom you would face criminal charges. It is best not to try and grow kratom in any state where it has been banned. 

American Kratom Association

The American Kratom Association has been heavily involved with trying to overturn the kratom bans across the nation. This organization has gone the extra mile for the kratom community. While they have not yet been successful in overturning the kratom ban in Vermont, they have made strides in regulating the industry. 

The AKA has put in place GMP regulations for vendors to comply with. While they are not mandated, for a vendor to be endorsed by the AKA they must follow these regulations. In addition, the AKA created the Kratom Consumer Protection Act. We will talk more about this act in the next section. Follow the AKA and offer your support when you can. 

Kratom Consumer Protection Act

The KCPA has already been adopted by Utah, Arizona, and Nevada. Other states are considering this act but have not yet taken the steps to get it in motion.
