The 4 Different Kratom Veins: Red, Green, White, & Yellow

Kratom Veins

More and more people are turning towards kratom, but there are still a lot of questions that individuals need answers to. One question we get a lot from our customers is rather or not kratom strains are truly all that different. While there is a lot to understand and know about kratom, strains and vein types will all vary in the wellness and support that they offer you.

They will also vary from one person to the next. There are a lot of factors that could alter the way kratom works. Understanding these factors will allow you to get the most from your kratom. In this guide, we will explore the various kratom veins and strains to understand how they vary.

History of Kratom

You may have heard of kratom, but are you familiar with its origins? Kratom commonly refers to the products that are derived from the dried leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa trees. These trees are native to Southeast Asia (e.g. Thailand, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia), and are classified as part of the coffee tree family. In the regions where the trees originate, kratom has been used for overall wellness and balance since the 19th century.

Kratom has a high alkaloid content, which is believed to be responsible for the wellbeing some users feel from taking the substance. Mitragynine, the primary alkaloid present within kratom, makes up approximately 66% of the alkaloid content found in these products.

This is commonly held to be the key ingredient necessary for the support kratom can provide. Once you are aware of kratom’s history, it’s important to determine the right kratom veins for you. You may not be able to immediately spot a difference when you’re scrolling through your options, but there are key distinctions between each of the kratom veins.

The majority of kratom strain products are named based on the color of the vein in the kratom leaf. Most accredited kratom retailers offer red kratom, green kratom, and white kratom products. Some vendors may also offer yellow or gold kratom, which is considered to be rarer than the other kratom vein colors.

The strongest strains will vary from person to person due to a number of factors.

Where Kratom Originates

Where the kratom originates will also have an impact on the alkaloid content within the plant. Mitragyna speciosa naturally grows in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. These origins will also become a part of their name. You will notice that most kratom contains the vein color as well as where it originates from, for example, Red Thai or Green Borneo.

Types of Kratom Veins

If you’re new to kratom or haven’t done much research, you may hear these colors of kratom veins and not understand what role they play in your kratom experience. Here is a breakdown of the types of kratom veins and their history.

Red Vein Kratom

The leaves found in red vein strains are harvested from the Mitragyna speciosa trees when they are very mature. The maturity of these kratom leaves may be responsible for their higher alkaloid content, which can make products more potent. Additionally, red vein kratom can be grown in a multitude of climates, ranging from dry and arid areas to humid regions.

Green Vein Kratom

Found mid-way through the maturity cycle of the kratom leaves, green vein kratom offers users a sweet spot between the intensity of the red vein kratom and the relatively-subtle white vein. Green vein kratom is also fairly common and easy to procure, which makes it a popular choice for retailers and customers.

White Vein Kratom

White vein kratom may offer kratom users a milder option for their needs. The leaves found in white vein kratom are harvested early on in the kratom leaves’ life cycle, while their veins are still pale and white. Some individuals have reported an overall balance when they have taken products that use white kratom veins.

Yellow Vein Kratom

By far the rarest kind of kratom vein available, yellow kratom is unique. It is unclear where and how yellow vein kratom originated in the wild. Within the kratom community, it is not agreed upon whether this vein color is even present within the kratom leaves’ lifespan.

One popular way to find yellow vein kratom, however, is by creating a blend of the other colors of kratom to yield the gold kratom. Because yellow/gold kratom vein products can be created using the other colors of kratom, these products will provide an overall balance and can help promote wellness.

Are All Kratom Strains The Same?

The answer to this one is no! Not all strains or vein types will be the same. All of them will vary in the type of overall wellness that they offer. This is important to note when you are new to kratom. You may take one type of kratom and not get the desired support you are looking for, and then a different strain or vein will provide you with that support.

What is important that you keep an open mind and go into kratom slowly. Always start with the smallest dose and work your way up. This will allow you the chance to see if the product is going to work for you or not. Plus, why take more if you are getting the wellness support that you are seeking on a lower dose. This will save you money and also help keep your tolerance levels to a minimum.

Every batch of kratom will be different, as it is naturally harvested. So, some things cannot be controlled. This means that the alkaloid content between batches could vary slightly. They should not vary so much that it is noticeable to you. If you are used to taking Green Thai, then you should always find the support you are looking for when choosing a Green Thai product from a vendor who offers high-quality kratom.

The amount of wellness you receive will be dependent on your serving size and the type of kratom you are taking.

Age Of The Plant

The variety of vein colors will also determine the age of the Mitragyna speciosa plant. Here is a generalized guideline of the vein colors and their aging process.

  • White Vein Kratom – Youngest plant
  • Green Vein Kratom – Plant is beginning to mature
  • Red Vein Kratom – Fully matured plant
  • Yellow Vein Kratom – This is white vein kratom that has gone through a longer drying process

As the kratom plant matures, there will be variance in the alkaloid levels. These alkaloids within the leaves are what will impact the overall wellness that you achieve. Therefore, the vein colors all have unique properties, which means that not all kratom strains and veins are the same.

Harvesting Kratom

To achieve the various vein colors, farmers will need to harvest the leaves at different times. How these leaves are harvested and dried will affect the overall results. How much the leaves are exposed to light will change the final color and alkaloid profile. These are all factors that will alter the type of wellness support that you receive. Genetics also plays a role in the outcome of the crop. Kratom plants can be bred to contain a variety of different traits.
